In the heart of Kebbi State, Nigeria, smallholder farmers face the harsh realities of a changing climate that threatens their crops, income, and way of life. 2nd December, 2024

Green Habitat Initiative (GHI) hosted its inaugural Climate Innovations Summit on the 3rd of December 2024. As climate change has increasingly impacted food security, productivity and livelihoods, this summit brought together policymakers, researchers, farmers, and innovators to explore sustainable strategies that ensure a thriving agricultural future for Nigeria. Under the theme “Increasing Nigeria’s Agricultural Sector through Climate Innovations Summit,” the summit highlighted innovative practices, technologies, and partnerships that enhance productivity while reducing environmental impact. The summit boasted experts in various fields who aim to unlock pathways to a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural system in the face of climate challenges.

10th December, 2024

In November 2024, the Green Habitat Initiative (GHI), in partnership with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), hosted the Workshop on Sustainable Agricultural Practices in Argungu, Kebbi State. Funded by the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) through the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN), this event marked a significant milestone in climate resilience for smallholder farmers. With 60 participants (29 women and 31 men) from Farfajiya Farm, this workshop delved into climate change impacts, early warning systems (RANETA TA), and sustainable farming techniques to ensure food security in Northwest Nigeria. Esteemed resource persons, including Malam Bala Muhammad (IFAD Kebbi SPO), Mr. Faruk Garba Illo (Director, Ministry of Agriculture), and Dr. Muhammad Mansur Aliero (Deputy Dean, KSUSTA), shared insights on innovative practices and tools.
